Degenerative Myelopathy (DM)

DM is a degenerative disorder of the part of the spinal cord that communicates information to the dog’s brain involving the hind legs. DM presents when dogs cannot move their back legs properly and can progress to the point of immobility. In rare cases, lack of vitamin E or vitamin 12 can be the cause, which is treatable with supplements.  Typically, there is no cure.
