Exocrine Pancreatic Insufficiency (EPI)

EPI is a disease of the pancreas destroying the cells that produce digestive enzymes. Consequently, the dog is unable to digest and absorb food. Initial symptoms are loss of appetite, weight loss, gas, and change in stools. The dog becomes very hungry and thin. Diagnosed through a simple blood test, EPI is treated by adding pancreatic enzymes to the dog’s food.
