Mitral Valve Insufficiency

Mitral Valve Insufficiency is typically seen in older dogs and is caused by a restriction in the heart’s mitral valve. As a result, the mitral valve no longer prevents blood flow into the left atrium, which can cause heart failure. Indications include hypertension and fluid in the lungs. Treatment includes exercise restrictions, medication, and a change of diet.
