Often mistaken for allergies, hypothyroidism, or other conditions, SA is a difficult-to-diagnose genetic disease. SA causes the sebaceous glands in the skin to become inflamed and destroyed. Symptoms present between one and five years old and include dry, scaly skin; and hair loss on top of the neck, head, and back. Severe symptoms can occur, including secondary skin infections, thickened skin, and the dog could have an unpleasant odour. This uncomfortable condition can be diagnosed through biopsy, and various treatment options can be prescribed.
