Umbilical Hernia

Umbilical Hernia occurs at birth when internal organs or abdominal fat protrude against the abdominal wall near the umbilicus. Small hernias can be left untreated and can close by six months of age.  In other cases, dogs can live with small hernias, without difficulty, for the rest of their lives.  Large hernias, on the other hand, need surgery to prevent a more severe condition.
