Von Willebrand’s Disease is a blood disorder found in humans and dogs that affects the clotting process. Symptoms include nosebleeds, prolonged bleeding from surgery, bleeding gums, prolonged bleeding during heat cycles or after whelping, and sometimes blood in the stool. This incurable disorder is typically diagnosed between three and five years of age. However, Von Willebrand’s Disease can be managed with treatments such as transfusions before surgery, cauterizing or suturing injuries, and avoiding certain medications.
